Bus stop talk #1 - a Hallam’s brown paperbag story

'Ted told Larry he's gone on a diet and given up his pint. How's that?'

'His decision. I told him what do you want? Nookie or stay overweight and he chose the former. It took him a while to make up his mind but there's nothing like short rations to make you appreciate what you're missing'.

'Christ, I can't imagine saying that to my Larry, he'd go ape'. Then she giggled. 'More like gorilla the truth be known. Big head, little dick. What am I saying? I've never told anyone that before'.

Her friend laughed. 'Have you never wanted a change every now and again?' She then broke the silence that followed by answering her own question, 'I tried it once, but I couldn't cope with the deception as much as I enjoyed it'.

'Really?'

'Yes, really’ and it was her friend's turn to laugh before saying 'I went with Larry's brother Kev when we went to stay with him in Sydney a few years back. Remember?' She took the nod as an invitation to continue. 'I guessed that if I got pregnant, neither of them would know and nor would I for that matter'.

'What else have we been hiding from one another for all these years?'

Carol put out her hand. 'Let's have coffee next week. It's been a long time'.

'I'd like that' Theresa replied.

The doors closed behind Carol and she waved as she took her seat. It had been a liberating few minutes.
